Step into Jane Austens' world at the set of the recent Pride and Prejudice at this majestic National Trust property.

Basildon Park

Set in lovely parkland and built in 1776-83 by John Carr, this magnificent Palladian Mansion is a monument to the vast wealth that its original owner, Francis Sykes, amassed in colonial India.

Used as the setting for the filming of the blockbuster Pride and Prejudice, which gained 4 Oscar nominations, 6 BAFTA nominations and was a winner of a Golden Globe. Basildon Park has a close affiliation to the Swan at Streatley, indeed, Keira Knightley and Donald Sutherland chose the Swan at Streatley as their home from home during filming.

Basildon Park Gardens

The interior decoration of Basildon park is not to be missed and is admired around the worl. The Waldorf Astoria in New York even have a Basildon Room containgin the original fireplace, mirrors, wall and cieling paintings from the Basildon Dining Room. Do not miss the shell room either, a room decorated entirely from land an dsea shells form all over the world.
